North Myrtle Beach Fire Department to Conduct August 25-27 Training Exercises at Four Local Marinas

The North Myrtle Beach Fire Department will conduct August 25-27 training exercises at four marinas in North Myrtle Beach. The training exercises may result in an increased number of emergency vehicles in the marina areas.

Using its BullEx Digital Fire Attack Training System, which creates a simulated flame and smoke for firefighters to extinguish, the department will simulate a fire onboard a boat docked in the marinas. The department acquired the training system in 2014 and it allows firefighters to train in different property locations using simulated smoke and fire conditions that are not harmful to boats, buildings and other structures.

According to Division Chief of Fire Training Billy Floyd, Jr., the department does not anticipate road closures during the drills and very minimal impacts to the dock areas for patrons who may be present.

“It is always good to be able to perform fire training exercises in different areas of the city,” Floyd said, “so that our firefighters can gain an early understanding of what they must cope with in certain real-life situations.”
