Jason Thompson, District Bridge Engineer, South Carolina Department of Transportation, reports that he has received clarification that the project contractor will close the eastbound lanes at 11:59 pm MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, and work will begin at 4:00 AM on Tuesday, September 8.
The
project will include repairing the approach slabs, replacing the
damaged roadway concrete, replacing and upgrading the expansion joint
seals, and replacing the damaged slope protection.
The
repairs are at the bridge approach slab on the west side of the
Intracoastal Waterway, which is the transition between the roadway and
the J. Bryan Floyd Bridge that spans the Waterway.
Detours will be posted using SC Highway 31 (Carolina Bays Parkway), SC Highway 9 and US Highway 17.
KEY DATES IN ROAD REPAIR PROJECT:
- SEPTEMBER 7 AT 11:59 PM: The eastbound (inbound) lanes on Robert Edge Parkway from US Highway 17 to beyond the bridge will close for approximately two weeks. Motorists will not be able to enter North Myrtle Beach using Robert Edge Parkway but will have to do so via alternate routes.
- SEPTEMBER 14: After evening rush hour, westbound lanes and sidewalk will also be closed.
- SEPTEMBER 21: After evening rush hour, westbound lanes opened up to traffic but the sidewalk will remain closed
- SEPTEMBER 25: Eastbound lanes and sidewalks to reopen.
- SEPTEMBER 25-30: Some periodic lane closures eastbound and/or westbound as needed for any remaining work.
