SOUTH OCEAN BOULEVARD WIDENING PROJECT PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING SET FOR NOVEMBER 19, 6PM-8PM, AT NMB CITY HALL

The City of North Myrtle Beach will make improvements to South Ocean Boulevard between 28th Avenue South and 15th Avenue South. Persons who own property near this road may have an interest in this project.
A public information meeting to inform the public about this project is scheduled for November 19, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at North Myrtle Beach City Hall, 1018 Second Avenue South.
Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed concept plans, and they are encouraged to review the various displays at the meeting and discuss their questions or concerns with City representatives who will be available at the meeting. Attendees are also encouraged to provide written comments on forms that will be provided at the meeting.
Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety, traffic operations, aesthetics and pedestrian accommodations. The City proposes to add a center median (two-way left-turn lane) which will enhance safety by separating left-turning vehicles from through-movement vehicles.
Strategically placed landscaped medians and the relocation of above-ground utilities to below ground will improve the aesthetics of the corridor. Sidewalks will line both sides of the roadway and will be separated from the adjacent through lanes by curb and gutter.
The proposed improvements will be made in accordance with SCDOT and American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guidelines.
The City has hired Stantec Consulting, an engineering firm located in North Charleston, SC to develop construction plans for improving this road. Stantec Consulting is currently developing conceptual plans for this project. Concept plans will be presented at the November 19 Public Information Meeting. Following the public involvement process, Stantec will develop detailed plans that the City will use to bid this project for construction. Funding is provided by SCDOT through the Grand Strand Area Transportation Study (GSATS), 5 Year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP).

PROJECT LIMITS
The roadway improvements will be on South Ocean Boulevard between 28th Avenue South and 17th Avenue South. The utility improvements, including the underground electric conversion, will be between 28th Avenue South and 15th Avenue South.
TYPICAL SECTIONS
There are two typical sections for the roadway improvements. There is a 60 foot right-of-way section of South Ocean Boulevard between 28th Avenue South and 21st Avenue South which will allow for a wider sidewalk on the southern side of the roadway and a landscaping strip between the curb and gutter on the northern side. Between 21st Avenue South and 17th Avenue South, there is a 50 foot right-of-way which allows for a 5 foot sidewalk along both sides of the road.
